Meet Eva Calabrese| Business Owner | Jewelry Maker

Can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

What first got me interested in wire wrapping jewelry was the fact that my ring size is so small (size 3-4). I always admired the intricacy of wire wrapped jewelry and wanted to have a wire wrapped ring for myself. Though none of the shops I found provided rings in my size, so that’s when I started. After that I just kept going with it and branched out into making pendants and other types of jewelry. My friends said this would make a good business so here I am now! Everything that’s happened since then has been nothing but a dream for me.

2). Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I honestly never expected to be the owner of this business. I’m studying criminal justice and psychology in school at the moment and wanted to be a forensic psychologist or something of that sort. But jewelry making has taken me down a different route and has been such a big part of my life and my happiness. I can't even imagine being without it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could go to?

I absolutely LOVE to eat!! There are so many spots I can recommend depending on your taste! Right now I’m obsessed with the Jamaican food cart outside of the student center on Temple’s campus. There’s also this amazing hot pot place (Kung Fu Hot Pot) that I love taking all my friends to. For visiting I definitely recommend Fairmount Park, especially with all the cherry blossoms being in bloom right now.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition for your success? People who supported you.

So many people deserve recognition for my success. My dad for one helped me get my website set up and my mom is one of my biggest cheerleaders. Also, all of my closest friends including my roommates have been so supportive, they’re a main part of my support system and are always rocking my jewelry.

Tell us about some of your career goals for your art.

Honestly, I would love to go full-time with wire wrapping, I enjoy it so much and the happiness that overwhelms me whenever I see someone wearing one of my pieces is unmatched. I want to make people happy with my art as much as it makes me. Right now that may not be the most realistic option but it’s my long-term goal.

I would also love to collaborate with and meet other artists! I love being a part of the art community here in Philly and there are so many creators out there I haven’t met yet.
