Meet Laura | Singer

1). Why did you pursue a creative career?

Well. I have always known that I wanted to do something creative. When I was little I fell in love with acting and theater. I loved the drama and transformation of it all. Suddenly I could become anyone I wanted to be. Escape my own world for a while. And create a new one. I unfortunately lost my interest in theater and acting. When I was 12 depression and social anxiety hit me like a trainwreck. Luckily, years later. I discovered a new passion, writing. Through that came singing, and making music. I still sometimes question if I have chosen the right path for myself. But I guess, only time will tell.

2). What should our readers know about you and your art?

The most important thing to know about me and my art is that. I’m far from complete. I’m still a very new artist. I am still figuring out my sound. My voice and at the same time, who I want to be in life. So if you are ready to go on a crazy journey of self-exploration and growth then you are more than welcome to join. But if you are expecting this perfect, established, poised, artist. Then I’m not for you.

3). Tell us more about your career goals, what can you share with our community?

I am Danish and Afro-Cuban. Those are my roots. And I wanna incorporate that so badly into my music. I’m estranged from the Cuban side of my family and unfortunately don’t know much about the culture. But I’m convinced that, that will change someday. So be on the lookout for some Spanish music. But as of right now, I would love to bring Danish music more recognition. We have some singers who have made amazing songs that have become hits, but only in English. A big goal for me, which I haven’t achieved yet is making more songs in Danish.  It would be incredibly cool to break through with a song written in Danish.

4). What was your thought process behind creating music?

The thought process is almost always different. Every song I write is like a new journey. Sometimes it’s very hard to find the words and melody. Other times I’m stuck staying up late at night keeping my dad awake cause I just can’t stop myself from creating. And that means belting out in song sometimes… Again I’m so sorry Dad.

5). What are the important things to you, in life?

Whoa. That’s a big question. I have honestly thought a lot about it lately. But I think my core always comes back to the people around me. The people I love. They are the most important things to me. And I don’t think that’s never gonna change.

6). Give some advice for upcoming artists wanting to follow a career in the arts?

It sounds cliché but stay passionate. As long as you can stay independent. All that money and sparkles may be nice and all that, but if you hate what you do, you might as well be working a 9-5 job. If you lose the joy or feel like you are somebody else’s money-making machine.  In my opinion, you have lost the point of being an artist.

7). Art Album is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shout out?

It would only be natural for me to shout out the most important people in my life who are also artists. Like My dad Bruno Skibbild who also makes music on all streaming platforms under the same name. And my lovely boyfriend Tristan Lindebjerg who posts covers on different social platforms.
