Meet Xtassy | Songwriter/Singer

1). Why did you pursue a creative career?

I’ve been writing poetry and singing for as long as I can recall. Art is so versatile, it comes in forms of words, music, videography and so much more. I think it’s beautiful that each artist can create a world of their own and share it with the world we live in, which can be overwhelming at times.

2). What should our readers know about you and your art?

I always like to say I make music from my soul to heal others, and I stand by that. My life has been incredibly challenging at times and listening to music was one of the most helpful things when I was at my lowest. So I hope my music can help someone out there get through their life and give them strength and validation. My name Xtassy is derived from the “love drug” because I do believe love heals everything, most importantly, self-love.

3). Tell us more about your career goals, what can you share with our community?

I want to reach as many people as I can with the music I create. I want people to feel sexy and empowered when they listen to my music, I want them to be able to feel vulnerable and cry, or just have fun and shake some ass. I want my music to make people feel whatever makes them feel free and happy.

4). What was your thought process behind creating music?

It’s my form of therapy, I write best when I’m at my worst. I make music I can listen to and feel validated and being a songwriter the lyrics matter to me more than the melodies at times. My late grandfather used to sing and train Indian classical “ghazal” for Bollywood back in the day, so in my melodies, you’ll hear my roots shine through in honor of him.

5). What are the important things to you, in life?

I believe perspective changes everything. My life has been incredibly overwhelming at times, but I realized that often it was my inner chaos that stopped me from being happy. Once I started to really focus on my inner peace, it didn’t matter how chaotic my world became, I knew I could handle it.

6). Give some advice for upcoming artists wanting to follow a career in the arts?

I know this is going to sound cliché but be true to who you are. It’s going to take time to discover that and refine it but take inspiration as just that, Don’t let it become imitation because your unique style is what’s going to separate you in this over-saturated industry.

7). Art Album is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shout out?

Jhené Aiko has the most beautiful voice and penmanship. She's really gotten me through some things. Victoria Monet is overall a superstar. I get my inspiration from a lot of OGs from back in the day. Lil Kim, Amerie, 50 Cent. I have too many to name but those have been on repeat recently.
